[RateGap](/)every home loan rate lenders publish, compared

# What moved this week

Every advertised home loan rate is read each morning. A move is a rate that came
back different from the morning before. The last 7 mornings.

Rates checked **Monday 2 November at 7:01 am** (Sydney time) · [browse all the data](/data)

Since Monday 26 October, **18 lenders** moved
**289 advertised rates**: 64 down and 225 up.
The typical move was 0.25 points.
        789 new rate lines appeared.

A week with no move is not a fault in the reading, and a week with many is not a fault in
  the lenders. Every move since
  the capture began is in
[the change log](/data/history), and there is [a
  feed](/data/history.atom) of it.

that reprices one loan across five bands moves five lines.

One row per loan, at its largest move. Down is a lower advertised rate for a new
customer. Whether an existing customer's rate followed is not in this data.

**How this is worked out, and what it does not tell you**

## How it is worked out

    1. Rates come from each lender's own feed under the Consumer Data Right, read each
    morning. Nobody types one in.
    2. A rate counts only if anyone could take it. Loans for particular groups, and lenders the
capture cannot reach, are left out.
    3. Each loan counts once per profile, at its lowest advertised rate.
    4. A move is counted where a rate line came back at least 0.01 points different
from its previous reading. A line appearing for the first time is a new line, not a move.

## What it does not tell you

    - **Advertised rates, not offers.** A lender can say no.
    - **New-customer prices.** What existing customers pay is published
    nowhere.
    - **The rate is not the cost.** Fees sit outside it.
