What moved this week

Every advertised home loan rate is read each morning. A move is a rate that came back different from the morning before. The last 7 mornings.

Rates checked Friday 18 September at 5:49 am (Sydney time) ยท browse all the data

Since Friday 11 September, 15 lenders moved 527 advertised rates: 33 down and 494 up. The typical move was 0.20 points. 205 new rate lines appeared.

Rates move rarely, and a week with no move is not a fault in the reading. Every move since the capture began is in the change log, and there is a feed of it.

A rate line is one advertised rate: one product, one loan type, one band. A lender that reprices one loan across five bands moves five lines.

How this is worked out, and what it does not tell you

How it is worked out

  1. Every rate comes from the lender's own feed, published under the Consumer Data Right. Nobody types a rate in. The rates are read each morning, and the figures on this page are taken once, from that morning's read.
  2. A rate counts only if anyone could take it. Loans for a particular group only, by their published conditions or by their name, are left out. So is any lender the capture has stopped reaching.
  3. Each loan is counted once per profile, at its lowest advertised rate. A lender that prices five bands by how much you owe is one loan here, not five.
  4. A move is counted where a rate line came back at least 0.01 points different from its previous reading. A line appearing for the first time is a new line, not a move.

What it does not tell you

The data behind this page is free to download, so any figure here can be checked against the file, and the file against the lender.

Free, and not advice. It knows only what the lender publishes, not what you could negotiate. A licensed broker does this for a living. Who made this. What this site collects.

Building something with this? There is an API, and the data is free.

Found in the data: what lenders charge above 80%, the rate a fixed loan rolls onto, what a comparison rate adds and what an offset costs.
